"The reason for the title Resilience... Pacific peoples have remarkable resilience in the face of natural disasters like hurricanes. The 2009 tsunami in Samoa and Tonga was the immediate  inspiration for this title. But in fact Pacific peoples have also recovered from the challenging  experience of migration to become a significant community in contemporary NZ in daily life contributing to sports, politics, arts, entertainment and certain professions. Many still face hardship with unemployment, poor health and housing. New leaders with new ideas are emerging and show the resilience of the early  pioneers to make a better life for the future."
